TBMs RECOMMENCE 12 JANUARY 2015 | NORTH WEST RAIL LINK | NORWEST STATION | UPDATE | UPCOMING WORK

Prior to the Christmas break, excavation of the Norwest station site was completed including the tunnel entry and exit points at both ends of the station area.

Waterproofing of the area has been completed and concreted with steel works occurring in preparation for tunnelling.

Elizabeth, the first TBM left Bella Vista in early September, has tunnelled more than 1.8km and Florence, the second TBM started late October and has tunnelled just over 655 metres. All TBM ceased for the Christmas period and will begin their journey on Monday, 12 January 2015.

As of Monday 5 January preparation for tunnelling will be carried out 24 hours a day, seven days a week in accordance with Environmental Protectioin Authority Licence conditions. The work will include installing steel work to support the TBMs, which will assist them moving through the open station area.  Once this is complete the TBM will be relaunched to the next phase of tunnelling.

Support infrastructure will be constructed on site to allow 24 hour, seven days a week in accordance with Environmental Protection Authority Licence conditions. This includes installing ventilation fans and extending the spoil conveyor that takes spoil through the tunnel from the TBMs back to Bella Vista for removal.

The above works will be taking place at the base of the station, 22m below the surface. No surface works will be carried out after 10pm.
